The Metaverse And What It Will Look Like In The Next 2-5 Years

What will marketing in the Metaverse look like in the next few years?
Right now advertising in the Metaverse is still very fragmented and most brands find it intimidating and overwhelming. Navigating where to advertise to hit their core avatar and then determining the best Metaverse advertising medium is incredibly challenging.
I believe there will be a few leading ad agencies that build the equivalent of DSPs for the Metaverse. These DSPs will win by making their ad interface as user friendly as Google Ads, Meta Ads, etc, enabling advertisers and brands to manage ads easily. Looking at more recent ad expansions onto TikTok, Snap, and Pinterest, I suspect arbitrage will last 2-3 years before we hit stability.
What are some good KPI's to benchmark a Metaverse activation on?
It’ll start off quite basic, CPM, CPE. As more Metaverse DTC plays open up we will track through to AR/VR foot traffic, purchases, ROAS and CAC.
How do you judge the readiness of a client on implementing an activation?
We have a lot of clients curious about advertising here. They think being first to market has this cool factor. When there is a lot of education required we can tell the client isn’t really getting it. Additionally, when the client doesn’t have a goal in mind for the campaign we assume they are not ready to take it seriously.
